Manchester was founded in 1823 when the town of East Hartford divided in two, and both use to be part of Hartford, along with West Hartford.
Manchester has plenty of parks including Wickham Park (half of which is located in East Hartford), and Case Mountain, both of which are perfect for biking, hiking and have a great view of the Hartford skyline. There is also the 53 acre Oak Grove Natural Science Center, which features a pond, many walking trails and a covered bridge.
The Shoppes at Buckland Hills, the Plaza at Buckland Hills, and Buckland Plaza surround the Buckland Hills area and is the center of Manchester’s retail shopping and great dining. The surrounding area contains numerous shopping plazas and extends into the town of South Windsor.
Every Thanksgiving the Manchester Road Race takes place and has more than 10,000 participants, second only to the Boston Marathon.
